Police were called to Swaffham Golf Club this morning after burglars smashed four windows and stole the £1,000 safe.

A member of bar staff went to open the club on Cley Road this morning around 11am when he found that four windows had been smashed, the adjoining bar between the bar and the cellar kicked down, and the safe was gone.

A committee member who was on-scene at 11am said the four windows had been smashed with a flagstone from the outside area of the club.

He said the club were lucky that there wasn’t more money in the safe, because of the quiet few weeks the club have had due to the weather.

The club has been closed for most of last week because of weather conditions, and had planned to hold a Burns Night function last night, but it was cancelled.

Members said there is an alarm system fitted at the site which connects to the police, but that it had not gone off.

Anyone with information should contact Norfolk Police on 101.
