The crash happened at about 8.45am on the section of road heading towards Harford Bridges, just after the Thickthorn roundabout.

Fire crews, police and ambulance attended the incident, involving a Bartrums lorry, a tractor and a BOC tanker - and the eastbound carriageway was closed until just after 11am.

Traffic was diverted off the A47 and people were advised to use alternative routes.

A police spokesman said no-one suffered serious injuries in the accident, but the road had to be closed to allow the emergency services to remove the vehicles and any debris.

  • They had to wait for a recovery team to arrive from rotherham to remove the liquid nitrogen on board the tanker. As it was venting and the valves were for removal were damaged. As for non injury my father did'nt think that, whilst he was being patched up in the hospital home now but in lots of pain!!!

  • When tankers are involved all precautions have to be made and tanker has to be made safe before recovery had to be made!!

  • Road closed for two hours, at least four traffic cars attending - all for a non injury RTA with minor damage at that!

  • snackman, I take it you don't eat british produced food etc. that the farms produce. Its always the Tractors Fault. Maybe drivers should be aware of the highway code, breaking distances, general code of conduct and be more aware of there surroundings.

  • I use the A47 bypass daily. Doesn't surprise me at all. Agree about the tractors. Have also spotted cyclists on 2 occasions during the same week using it! Madness.

  • Tractors on the A47, A11, A14 and any other dual carriageway are not speed compatible with the rest of the traffic and should be BANNED. They are a hinderance.
