Fancy drinking coffee until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays? Then a new coffee/wine bar that’s opening next month in Norwich city centre might be your cup of tea.
Brother and sister Thomas and Mercedes Hood and businessman Akmal Hussain have taken on a former solicitor’s office in Upper King Street, and will be opening their new business, Aroma, there next month.
The bottom floor will be the coffee bar, the middle floor the seating area and the top floor the wine bar.
The street already boasts Bar 11 just a few doors down and the Stadia German beerhall on the corner of Princes of Wales Road.
Thomas and Mercedes, who grew up in Diss, already run the Locomotion coffee bar at the Garage opposite Chapelfield Gardens.
Mr Hussain, who has been working with family and friends at the Raj of India restaurant in Thorpe St Andrew, said: “We are offering something new to the people of Norwich and hope to fill a gap. We will be giving the community something they have not had before. I don’t know many places in Norwich that will serve coffee the whole day until midnight.”
The partners said they had been inspired by Frank’s Bar, in Bedford Street, among others.
Miss Hood said: “The idea was born from the frustration of waiting to be served on a weekend in Norwich without having to fight your way through crowds to reach the bar. We will have table service from 7.30am until 7pm and even until midnight on Friday and Saturday. We’ll be serving locally sourced sandwiches and ciabattas throughout, as well as locally roasted coffee and wines/spirits from 10am to the close... everything we do will be top-notch.”
