Convicted murderer Simon Hall was found hanged from his prison bed, inquest told

A prisoner who died in his cell was found hanged at HMP Wayland, an inquest heard today.

Simon Hall, 36, was convicted of murdering a 79-year-old widow was found dead in February 2003.

He was found in his cell in the early hours of Sunday, February 23.

Norfolk coroner Jacqueline Lake said Hall, who was born in Lincolnshire, was found by a prison officer.

She added: “CPR was commenced but sadly Mr Hall was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Post-mortem results are awaited, and his inquest will be reviewed on or before May 22.

Hall confessed last year to killing Joan Albert at her home in Boydlands, Capel St Mary, more than 12 years ago.

He was found unconscious in his cell at HMP Wayland, near Thetford at 5.25am on February 23.

For 11 years after Hall was arrested he denied being the killer and battled to clear his name.

Hall, formerly of Hill House Road, Ipswich, admitted his guilt last August when he was an inmate at Hollesley Bay open prison, near Woodbridge.
