Organisers of the VW Whitenoise Festival insisted they “strictly adhered” to the Norfolk Showground’s music licence, following complaints about noise from the event at the weekend.

South Norfolk Council has written to the organisers and Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association (RNAA), which runs the showground, about eight noise complaints from families living near the ground.

John Purling, the RNAA’s outgoing chief executive, said: “This is a new event for us and, as with any event we undertake, we meticulously plan its delivery and ensure we stringently follow regulations set down by the appropriate authorities.

“On this occasion, it appears we may have to look closely at whether noise management was indeed satisfactory and if there was more we could have done as the venue for the event.

“We try at all times to ensure that the local community is not impacted significantly by the showground’s activities, and should we conclude that there is more that could be done with similar events in future, then of course we will strengthen our efforts – together with our clients – to satisfy both those attending events, and those living close by.”

The organisers of the festival said: “We kept within all our licensing agreements.

“We had a music licence for the barn and the pavilion at the Norfolk Showground until 1am and the outside music stage until 10pm, all of which were strictly adhered to.”
