Members of the community are helping to shape the future of a neglected hotel, according to its new owner who has revealed the latest developments within his plans.

Iain Wilson opened up the doors of the Old Brewery House in Reepham at the end of last month to give members of the public the chance to see his ambitions for the building and to give feedback.

The owner of Byford’s in Holt took over the redundant building at the end of last year and plans to turn it into a blend of an eating venue, upmarket B&B and homes.

Concerns raised at the open event, which saw hundreds of people attend, included the loss of the restaurant and car park, plans for a cafe, the need for a function room and the loss of the sports club.

In response to the comments given on the night, Mr Wilson’s team has sent interested parties a detailed newsletter. The initial change is that the Old Brewery House will revert back to its previous name, the Dial House, and that change will take place with immediate effect.

Mr Wilson, who also runs The Pigs in Edgefield and part of the Assembly House, also revealed for the first time that the residential element of the plans are for five two-bedroom houses and 13 three-bedroom houses, all with their own parking.

He said there will be a real push on quality and they will be looking to appeal to those aged 45-plus and will be looking for house-buyers who want them as permanent homes, as opposed to holiday homes.

Mr Wilson said there has been some confusion over the term cafe. In the newsletter, he says: “We will scrap the term ‘cafe’ as we may have misled you.

“Ideally, we want to create an experience that is really good quality, restaurant-standard food.”
