His manic, high-energy performances have earned him a massive following, and he now regularly sells out some of the biggest venues in the country.
But comedy fans in the Lowestoft area are in for a real treat this summer when Lee Evans returns to the town for a one-off appearance at the Marina Theatre.
On the previous occasions the Essex-born star performed in town – in 2008 and 2011 – all 2,800 tickets for his four shows at the Marina sold out in a matter of hours.
Some fans even queued up overnight to secure the best seats in the theatre.
People in Waveney will have another chance to see the record-breaking comedian when he hits the stage locally for a special “Work In Progress” performance on Tuesday, June 3.
With tickets due to go on sale this Sunday, the Marina will be opening its box office from 10am – to personal callers only, and with a strict limit of two per person.
A spokesman for the Marina said the comedian would be trying out brand new material during the show ahead of his forthcoming Monsters Arena tour, meaning he might at times refer to notes.
“Lee Evans is a hugely popular entertainer and we are extremely honoured to be given the opportunity to host his forthcoming Work In Progress event,” he said.
“He will be trying brand new material for his forthcoming Monsters Arena tour and demand for tickets will undoubtedly outstrip supply. Therefore, in order to be as fair as possible to local people, we will be opening our box office especially on Sunday morning, and seats will be sold strictly on a first-come, first-served basis and will not be available to purchase by telephone or online.”
The news comes just a few weeks after the Marina announced that comedian Jimmy Carr was to perform an extra late night show on July 19, after tickets for his first date sold out in record time.
The theatre also hosted recent sell-out performances by comedians Jon Richardson and Jason Manford, and shows have been lined up for September by the host of Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week, Paul Chowdhry and Iranian actor-comedian Omid Djalili, for October by the hugely popular Jimeoin and Radio 4’s Mark Steel, and for November by Marcus Brigstocke.
