Coastguard rescue officers were called out twice in quick succession to deal with incidents in the beach area.

The team from HM Coastguard Lowestoft and Southwold assisted a woman in the early hours of this morning (Saturday) in the South Pier area of Lowestoft.

The coastguard rescue officers were alerted at 2.37am that a woman was “in need of medical assistance,” and a spokemsan for HM Coastguard Lowestoft and Southwold said: “On arrival the woman was still on the rock armour and a member of public had climbed down to keep her calm. The team assisted the woman ashore and into the custody of awaiting police. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.”

The team also thanked flank support from Gorleston CRT.

At 6.15pm last night (Friday, September 14) coastguard rescue officers from HM Coastguard Lowestoft and Southwold were called to assist the East of England Ambulance Service with aiding a casualty from Lowestoft beach.

But on arrival the casualty was already in the care of the ambulance crew, according to the coastguards spokesman, and the team was stood down.
