An overturned inflatable dinghy sparked a coastguard callout after concerns were raised about possible missing beach-goers.
A Lowestoft Coastguard crew responded to reports of an unmanned inflatable dinghy at Gun Hill Beach, Southwold, at 8pm yesterday.
Rescue officer Claire Hall said: 'Obviously there is always a worry that the inflatable was used, had blown back into shore and someone was missing.
'When the team got there they realised it had been on the beach a long time.
'Investigations proved that it was likely left from during the day as it had a puncture and had not washed up. The team disposed of the item.'
The rescue officer explained the emergency services can receive such calls in the summer when members of the public spot discarded inflatables and call for help.
Ms Hall added: 'We would like to remind people of the dangers of inflatables at the seaside and encourage people to take their rubbish home with them or use the bins provided.'
