A number of rare vintage and classic tractors will be going under at the hammer at Sutton, near Ely, on Saturday, April 26.
More than 300 machines including a pair of original John Fowler ploughing engines from the Strumpshaw Hall collection, as featured in last Saturday’s Farm & Country, and a special Aveling & Porter steam roller, will also be sold by auctioneers, Cheffins.
One of only two 1936 Ferguson Brown A industrial tractors known to have survived will be sold. It was part of a consignment shipped to the South African Air Force during the Second World War.
Another rarity, an original 1948 David Brown Thresherman, which replaced a Fowler steam engine in a Yorkshire threshing business sold for £10 for scrap, is for sale and carries an estimate of between £12,000 and £14,000.
There were only 185 made and this VTK1 threshing tractor has been owned from new by the same family. It was also used to haul heavily-laden lorries up Sutton Bank, near Thirsk, which has a one in four gradient in places.
A Swedish made 1924 Avance 30hp two cylinder two stroke diesel tractor is the first of its type to be offered for sale by auction in Britain. The origins of these Swedish tractors date from 1901 when a leading mechanical engineer, J V Swensen, who also made paraffin stoves for export, designed reliable crude oil engines.
Auctioneer Oliver Godfrey, said: “There will be something for everybody - from wheels to tracks and from restored to original examples.”
