Figures released today show that people in Waveney lapped up the chance to see former Carry On and Coronation Street star Amanda Barrie taking the starring role as the Fairy Godmother.

The panto proved to be one of the most successful shows staged at the Marina in eight years, with audience numbers up 25pc on the previous year’s seasonal offering Aladdin.

As the Marina celebrated its success, details were also released of this year’s pantomime – with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs due to arrive in Lowestoft from December.

Martin Halliday, chief executive for the Marina Theatre Trust, said: “We were absolutely thrilled with the response to our pantomime, Cinderella.

“The production had a brilliant cast led by Amanda Barrie and was packed full of music and comedy.

“The show proved hugely popular with our audiences – with the production more than 25pc up on the previous year.

“We have already been inundated with inquiries for this year’s pantomime.

“Therefore, we are delighted to confirm we will be presenting another family favourite, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, from December 16 and once again the pantomime will be produced in partnership with Paul Holman Associates.”

Full casting has yet to be confirmed for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which will be the fifth pantomime produced at the Marina by Paul Holman Associates.

Mr Holman said: “We are delighted that our production of Cinderella proved such a huge success and equally pleased to have been invited to present the Marina’s traditional pantomime for a fifth successive year.

“We’re looking forward to playing to audiences both young and old with a great family production featuring a fine cast, spectacular costumes, stunning scenery and good old-fashioned slapstick.

“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is going to be an action- packed show – exciting, fresh and full of family fun.”

■Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will run from Tuesday, December 16 through until Tuesday, January 3. Ticket prices will start from £7, with group discounts available for parties and schools. A special early bird booking rate has also been introduced for those purchasing seats between now and the end of March.
