A part-smoked cigar discarded by former prime minister Sir Winston Churchill at a royal luncheon has been sold for £480 at a Norfolk auction house.
The Panama was enjoyed by the statesman during a lunch at London’s Mansion House to welcome the Queen and Prince Philip home from a Commonwealth tour.
But the auction lot also included sketches of Churchill smoking it, done by doodling fellow diner Sir John Elliott, the head of the nation’s railways, as well as other royal and military memorabilia put up for sale by his family.
A spokesman for Keys saleroom said the item - which had a guide price of £500-600 was bought by an internet bidder from Coventry.
