Last year it was Hatchimals, this year's must-have Christmas toy is Fingerlings.

The small animal toys made by WowWee hang on your finger and know when they're being touched, talked to or even when they are upside down.

They cost £14.99 and come in a selection of colours and animals, including a monkey, sloth and a unicorn.

Children across the world are desperate to get their hands on a Fingerling and parents are despairing due to the lack of stock.

Almost every toy store in Norfolk has sold out of the quirky toys. Smyths toys in Norwich currently have two play sets left in stock worth £39.99.

A spokesman for Toy Box Toys in Diss said: 'People are calling us about Fingerlings every day and asking if we have any. The company that makes them appears to be out of stock and no one really knows when a new shipment will be sent out.

'We would warn people that there are some good fakes out there so don't be deceived online.'

Langley's Toys in Norwich has one single Fingerling left in stock and are offering it as a prize to customers on Facebook.

Their competition post has proved incredibly popular amassing over 2,000 shares and more than 1,000 likes.

Manager Chris Goulding said: 'I did think they were going to be popular back in July when we got the first six in and they flew off the shelves then and ever since it's been difficult to keep up with demand.

'This is definitely the biggest thing I've seen since the Teletubbies, I was working here when they were about and we had massive queues outside the shop for those.'

He added: 'I contacted the manufacturers the other day and they said there would be no more Fingerlings in the UK until 2018, but there is a very small delivery coming in which we are hoping to get hold of.

'If we do manage to get some, we'll be contacting people on our mailing list and they'll be able to buy them in store on a first come, first served basis.'
