DOVES' CHRISTIAN CENTRE in Barnstaple is re-opening on Tuesday, September 8 with a special guest appearance by singer Chris Jordan to launch the new endeavour.

New manager Paul Salmon is going to run the Centre with a slightly different and "funkier" feel, along with Yvonne and John Brown hosting the Oasis Café in the heart of the town

Paul said: "We cherish all our previous customers but want to attract the younger generation as well, the adventure seeking teenager and the faithful old bookworms!

"We aim to have a Creative Zone every Friday lunchtime with possible live music, stand-up poetry, author slots, book launches, speakers and occasional children's entertainment.

For the next three to four months and leading up to Christmas there will be an art exhibition by CrazyFish, entitled "Jesus, Surf and Penélope Cruz".

Pam, "Puppet" Harvey will be performing the odd live puppet shows and workshops for all ages, with the first being Thursday lunch-time on September 23.

In the garden there will be a refreshment area and some children's activities. There will be a "Kidz Zone" inside as well.

Local businessman, Philip Milton, continues to support the venture financially, as he has done ever since 1988, to ensure there is some stability into the future and because he believes "it is the right thing to do". He hopes too that volunteers from the community will come forward to help ensure there is as comprehensive a service as possible. Will you help us help North Devon?
