A charity dance will be held for the fourth year in a row to remember a popular young man who lost a brave battle with a brain tumour.

It will be at Swanton Morley Village Hall on June 23 in memory of Lee Parker.

The event will raise money for two Norfolk charities.

Mr Parker, from Toftwood, was just 35 when he lost his six-year battle with a brain tumour, but since then his sister Zoe Ryder has celebrated his memory by organising the events in aid of Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital Oncology Department and the charity Dereham Cancer Care.

Mrs Ryder said: 'I cannot bring him back but I just want to thank those who helped me enjoy six more years with him after the initial diagnosis.'

In the first two dances the funds raised were donated solely to Dereham Cancer Care, but last year Mrs Ryder decided to pledge half of the money to the hospital department that treated her brother. The money raised for the oncology department will be used to buy syringe drivers for morphine.

Mrs Ryder said: 'They were caring and compassionate and always took the time to answer all our questions.

'In such a highly pressurised environment they always remembered Lee and welcomed time to have a chat with him.'

As with the previous dances, the Lee Vasey Band will be providing the music.

The event will feature a charity raffle, a hog roast and a balloon drop.

Mrs Ryder said: 'Lee was a vibrant, outgoing lad who loved music and loved to dance and always had a huge smile on his face.'

'He was never on his own – we're a very close family.

'I will hold his memory in my heart forever and will always love him.'

Last year's fundraising total came in at £5775 and Sowerbys Property Agents have agreed to donate £1000 to the cause this year.

Mrs Ryder said: 'This will make an enormous difference to the overall total of money raised. I would like to thank Sowerbys from the bottom of my heart for their offer.'

Tickets are available at Sowerbys Dereham, Furniture Plus Dereham, Dereham Cancer Care or by calling 07590 320400.
