The Boudicca Way project is inviting companies to apply to join the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS), which is a benchmark for environmental credentials.

And as an extra incentive to join, the project organisation is offering to pay the application fees for a limited number of businesses that are successful in gaining the GTBS accreditation.

One of the project’s key objectives is to promote and encourage sustainable tourism and to support suitable businesses to gain the GTBS benchmark.

The Boudicca Way is an award-winning long distance footpath which runs for approximately 36 miles between Diss and Norwich.

The route can be walked in either direction and runs between Diss and Norwich railway stations.

The Way is named after the legendary warrior queen of the Iceni, whose tribes once inhabited the area, and passes through the rural countryside of south Norfolk and the Waveney valley.

The path, created 10 years ago, takes in public rights of way and quiet country roads, stopping off in Pulham Market, Saxlingham Nethergate and Shotesham along the way.

Following a grant from the Waveney Local Action Group (LAG), funded by the Rural Development Programme for England, a plan was put in place to promote local services and get local businesses involved in creating a sustainable tourism offer based on the existing Boudicca’s Way route.

The route has now been rejuvenated with the recent installation of 49 new footpath and waymarker signs, some supported by a donation from the Southern Norfolk Ramblers.

A new website, www.boudiccaway.co.uk has also been launched to provide a range of information on the area.
