there is an open day at seagull theatre

An open day will be held at the Seagull Theatre in Pakefield to show people what is on offer there

People can sample free taster sessions of drama and also see how other groups regularly use the theatre during the open day on Saturday, August 2 from 10am to 4pm.

Organised by Marion Small, who works in local theatre and is passionate about the Seagull in particular, a series of free events will be held all day at the venue in Morton Road.

A spokesman said: “Marion’s vision for this day is to encourage the general public to come and see that the Seagull is not just a theatre but a community building offering so much more.

“The event is aimed at all ages and includes guided tours, light and sound talks, play readings, face-painting, plays in rehearsal, war games participation, set construction and performing arts classes.”

Visitors will be encouraged to take part at all times and will be shown around by volunteers, who actively hope that this will persuade others to come along and join the team.

At 10.30am, the Quaysiders will perform a dramatised reading of The Monkey’s Paw, at noon Yakety Yak will a perform play reading and illustrate how to choose a production and at 2pm people can see the Dynamic Youth Theatre rehearse Mrs Doubtfire.

In the upstairs studios, Mattie and Mimi will be showcasing their toddler music classes between 10am and noon, the Theatre Train will offer taster sessions at 12.30pm and 1.30pm, and the Seagull Community Choir will hold an open rehearsal from 3.15pm.

The free open day on August 2 ends at 4pm with a performance by the Seagull Community Choir.

Refreshments will be available all day.

Also on Saturday, August 2 at 7.30pm Bob Drury will be presenting The Neil Diamond Story: the life of a legend in song.

It will celebrate Diamond’s long career and hits, such as Cracklin’ Rose, Sweet Caroline and America. Tickets are £12. To books tickets ring the box office on 01502 589726.
