The online fund-raiser for Sheringham Woodfields School was the idea of seven creative youngsters from the Turtle class.

A pair of socks was donated by Hannah Spearritt, formerly of pop band S Club 7 who comes from Gorleston, comedian Paul Whitehouse, magician Paul Daniels and Norfolk actor Terry Molloy who played Davros, creator of the Daleks in Doctor Who.

Turtles class teacher Lucinda Abel said: “We didn’t anticipate it would be as successful as it was.”

Hannah Spearritt’s socks raised £721. One went to someone in Devon and the other to a London resident.

A mother of a Sheringham Woodfields pupil outbid everyone else for the other celebrities’ socks, which will be put on display at the school.
