The RSPCA is appealing for information about who dumped two scared young cats in a taped up box with no airholes down a bank beside a road in Beccles a few days ago.

The box was spotted by a dog walker using a path that runs at the bottom of the bank in Ringsfield Road on Tuesday, February 4.

He had to go into the nearby Three Rivers Vet surgery in London Road the next day and told them that he had taken a quick look into the box and found two young cats inside.

Vet nurse Cathy Braddon got directions to where the box was. She said: “I took some food thinking I might have to lure them to me somehow but they were still inside, soaked to the bone and looking dazed and confused by their ordeal.

“The road is raised and there is a hedge at the top so it looks as if someone drove along and threw them out of a car and down the bank. The weather was atrocious on Tuesday and Wednesday with strong winds and rain and I am very pleased that our client thought to investigate it.”

The cats, a male black and white and a female tortoiseshell, are both about five to six months old. They were dehydrated but otherwise unharmed when checked by a vet.

Both cats are now in the care of the RSPCA Suffolk East Coast branch.

If anyone has any information about who owns these cats or saw anyone dumping them in Ringsfield Road they should call the RSPCA cruelty line on 0300 123 4999 where all calls are treated in confidence.

To help the RSPCA investigate cases like this you can give £3 by texting the word HELP to 78866 (texts cost £3 plus one standard network rate charge).
