One of the cast members of a show celebrating Norfolk is hoping to use her moment on the stage to boost funds for a local charity.

Sharon Hulbert from Dilham, near Stalham, wants to raise money and awareness of The Matthew Project by taking part in the Norfolk and Norwich Festival show 100pc Norfolk which opens tonight at Norwich Theatre Royal.

The show - which is supported by Greater Anglia and the Evening News's sister paper the EDP - is quite literally Norfolk in numbers. It includes 100 ordinary Norfolk people in the cast who are there to tell their stories and put a human face on statistics about Norfolk,

Mrs Hulbert, 55, is 48pc in the show, and during the moment she has to introduce herself on stage she plans to highlight the work of The Matthew Project and is also being sponsored to mention a number of companies.

So far she will be mentioning The Maids Head Hotel, OPL Productions and ABC Taxis, but she also has time to mention a few others in return for a minimum donation of 50 per name.

Mrs Hulbert, who is currently doing PR work for the charity based in Pottergate, said: 'We have a moment where we can say whatever we want to say and it just seemed like a good opportunity to highlight the work of The Matthew Project.

'The charity supports and educates those affected by alcohol and drug issues. They really are very caring and passionate about what they do, and they are there to support people who have drug and alcohol issues and also their families.'

She has also arranged for bucket collections for The Matthew Project to take place at the end of each of the three 100pc Norfolk performances.

'Knowing how wonderfully generous Norfolk people can be, I am hoping we can raise lots of money for The Matthew Project,' she said.

About the show itself, she said: 'I am really, really pleased to be involved in the show. I am meeting so many amazing people and hearing so many amazing stories. It is nice to be one of the 100pc.'
