Care home likely to close in Beccles

Residents and care workers at The Dell, in Beccles, have been told that the home is likely to close later this year, with a new bigger care home set to be opened in Lowestoft.
Suffolk County Council, which runs the home, is transferring its 16 homes to Care UK, and has told those at The Dell that their home is likely to close – subject to approval in October.
Care UK is expected to close a number of the homes in the county as they create 10 larger ones with more beds.
Colin Noble, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for health and adult care, said: “These proposals are about investment in residential care, not cuts. If proposals are approved, Care UK will take on the running of the county council’s 16 care homes and eight well being centres and is committed to delivering 10 new care homes across Suffolk.
“We are dealing with people’s homes and must not lose sight of that. Over the coming weeks, we are visiting each of the homes to talk directly with residents, relatives and staff about the proposal for their home, to answer their questions and allay their concerns.
“It is important to remember that these are just proposals. The county council’s cabinet will consider them when it meets in October and only if they believe they will meet the needs of Suffolk people now and in the future will any change take place.
“I fully understand that change for older and vulnerable people can be extremely unsettling. Therefore, if proposals are approved, each resident would be assigned a social care worker to support them through the change to ensure their care needs continue to be met.”
