The crash on Convent Road, off the roundabout with Chapel Field Road happened just before 6pm, when the female driver lost control of her blue Renault Megane.

It is understood she had a fit at the wheel and the car skidded across the lane she was in as she left the roundabout on Unthank Road.

The car then crossed the central reservation and hit the lamppost, before coming to a stop in the opposite lane, facing towards oncoming traffic.

The Renault’s tyre and wheel arch were damaged from the crash with the lamppost.

Nobody was injured in the accident, but an ambulance was called.

Police were called at around 6pm and closed one lane.

The car was towed away and the road was cleared by 8pm.
