Alison Bessey and Holly Milligan spotted the box at the bus stop in Aylsham Road, Mile Cross at about 7.30am today.

It was placed on one of the seats at the bus stop, near Flowers of Norwich florist.

They took it to the Marion Road day centre, where Ms Bessey is care co-ordinator, Miss Milligan is a volunteeer, and Ms Bessey’s daughter, Megan Rose, is a senior support worker.

Miss Rose, who lives in Drayton, was curious about the dress and why it had been left there and immediately made inquiries on social media to find out its provenance.

She said: “I’m getting married in June and could imagine losing my wedding dress - I would be devastated. It was so strange that the dress was neatly folded in the box. There were no labels on it to say who it belonged to. It looks like a really expensive dress, so I cannot understand what it was doing at the bus stop.”

  • Luckily, I was in the vicinity and saw exactly what happened: Gormina Ripponden 23, unmarried, had just purchased her wedding dress from 'trousseaus are us' and was daydreaming about her forthcoming nuptials to Lazarus St Willersley, 52, married(but working on it). But things were to about to change dramatically at the bus stop. As she waited nervously for the No.38 to Splodgebeer road, a yellow and purple Simca 1100 screeched to a halt by the side of her and a tousled, freckly not too spotty young man with a tweed jacket and flares, asked her for the time. Something went 'PING' in Gormina's brain(what there was of it) and she realised that this young retro lothario was the man for her!(she knew, deep inside her black heart that there was no future with Lazarus(or Lazzybaby as he liked to be called) as it was becoming obvious that he was never going to leave his wife, Bannocketta. 47, married.) With a cheerful Whoop! she dived headlong into the Simca and embraced her new love(Lupin Guttershaw, 27, unmarried(but not for long)) Lupin responded in the enthusiastic affirmative, and they sped off toward Powys, leaving a lonely wedding dress fluttering in the quiet breeze-a sad and mournful reminder of life's cruel twists. Hope this helps with the mystery.

  • Look for someone dressed in her heels and undercrackers carrying flowers wearing a veil.

  • Probably some woman who realised 2014 would be a Good Year if she didn't get married after all
