Firefighters have been called to Ilketshall St Andrew, near Bungay, to deal with a large hay bale blaze.

The Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 6.41pm yesterday that hay bales were on fire in Becks Green Lane.

One fire engine from Halesworth was sent to the incident in which 500 hay bales, each weighing one tonne, were alight.

At 11.50pm a fire engine from Bungay took over control of the incident from the Halesworth crew.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service Fire spokesman said the crew were pulling bales apart from a smaller stack and a larger stack was being allowed to burn under supervision.
