A photographer from Brundall has had his work shortlisted for a national competition and is in the running to win a dream trip to Alaska.

David Hyam entered the competition with the Discovery Channel by submitting a photograph of a sunset from the island of Wasini, off the Kenyan coast of Africa.

He said: 'I've always been passionate about animals and I was lucky enough to get a six-month volunteer placement observing and recording wild dolphin behaviour, on the island of Wasini.

'There was no electricity, no running water and all our food had to be shipped from the mainland - but who needs mod-cons with sunsets like this?

'The local community were amazing, so kind and welcoming. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could.'

Mr Hyam is one of 25 entries shortlisted and if successful he would win a gold rush adventure trip to the Alaskan mountains.

The competition was launched to mark the 25th anniversary of the Discovery Channel in the UK.

Make Your World Bigger asked entrants how they have made their world bigger by entering online where they could upload a maximum of five images with up to 25 words of copy to accompany each.

All entries were put into a weekly draw and then the shortlisting process took place for thousands of individual entries.

The final shortlist of 25 entries are now featured on the public voting website, including Mr Hyam's. Voting finishes Sunday at midnight. To vote visit http://mywbcompetition.com.
