A PROFESSIONAL director and actor will be taking a Saffron Walden theatre group through its paces at its next production.

David Davies was the company manager of The British Shakespeare Company last year and will be taking up the same role - as well as lead actor - this year.

Now he is turning his attention to Saffron Walden-based Shake-A-Leg Theatre Company by directing their forthcoming production of The Winter's Tale.

"I am very impressed by the dedication of the entire cast. We are approaching this as if we expected a West End transfer", said Mr Davies during a break in rehearsals at Saffron Walden Town Hall.

"The audience can expect high drama and rollicking comedy. If the first half is like a dark psychological thriller as we are catapulted along by Leontes jealousy, then the second half offers dances, songs and hi-jinks."

He added: "Come and enjoy one of Shakespeare's more complex plays performed by the excellent Shake-a-Leg cast.

"Experience the fear and the laughter in the historic town hall and sit back and enjoy the dancing."

The production runs from April 14 to 18. Tickets are still available from the Tourist Information Centre on Market Square or by calling 01799 524002.
