Ventriloquist Steve Hewlett, who took the Britain’s Got Talent show by storm when he produced a dummy of Simon Cowell, is heading back to Norfolk buoyed by his TV fame.

The entertainer is a former popular headline act at Cromer Pier show, and was keen to make sure the venue was on his first ever national tour.

Before he arrives at the Pavilion on June 1 with his Thinking Inside the Box Show he is back in the county this week in a touring Easter panto.

On Thursday and Friday Mr Hewlett is working alongside magician Paul Daniels and his assistant Debbie McGee in an Alice in Wonderland in which he plays Tweedle Dee while his mainstay puppet Arthur Lager is Tweedle Dummy.

He said that since being a wildcard finalist in last year’s TV talent show final work had been pouring in. It included appearing on the Alan Titchmarsh television show and a lot of corporate work - linked to the Simon Cowell surprise.

“I do special events where I produce a dummy of the boss which is then presented to them as a mascot,” he said.

His own tour is also calling at Lowestoft Marina Theatre on April 27 and finishes on August 3 at Great Yarmouth’s Britannia Pier.

It will include some BGT characters and a new dog puppet called Chii Chii. There is also magic from Richard Griffin.

Mr Hewlett is hoping to team up with Paul Daniels next year for a new show which would look at past ventriloquists.

“I would like to feature the acts done by Ray Allen and Lord Charles and Lenny the Lion - if I can get permission to borrow them from their current owners,” he added.
