Road users are being warned of overnight improvement works starting from 8pm.

The work, which will consists of temporary repairs to the lifting mechanism of the bridge, is expected to be completed by 6am tomorrow, Wednesday.

The bridge will be closed in both directions and signed diversions put in place.

Motorists wishing to travel southbound will be diverted via Acle New Road, Fullers Hill, Alexandra Road, Yarmouth Way, Hall Quay, Bridge Road and the A1243 Pasteur Road, while northbound traffic will be diverted via Pasteur Road, Bridge Road, North Quay and Acle New road.

The Highways Agency said the bridge will be lifted between 8pm and midnight to allow boats to pass, subject to repair work.

A further overnight closure will be needed during ‘spring 2014’ although details and dates are yet to be announced.

Road users are advised to plan their journeys before they set out, and to leave extra time if they are going to be affected by this work.
