A YOUNG boy has tragically lost his battle to beat brain cancer, and died peacefully in hospital.

Fabian Burke-Georgiou was just seven years old when he was diagnosed with an aggressive brain stem glioma tumour in October last year.

The Muswell Hill community rallied to support the Coldfall Primary School student and his family, forming the Fight for Fabian campaign.

More than £50,000 was raised to pay for pioneering treatment from American specialists, but Fabian died aged eight on Monday, August 17.He had already undergone three rounds of chemotherapy.

His dad and mum, Wayne and Zorzia Burke-Georgiou, issued the following statement: "We are truly grateful for the kindness and generosity shown to us by the residents and businesses in Muswell Hill and are especially grateful for the support received from Coldfall Primary School. The past 10 months have been both emotional and draining, but the strength and bravery shown by Fabian kept us going.

"We want to thank those who have donated their time, money and support. We are proud our son touched so many lives."

His funeral was held on August 26, and a special assembly in memory of Fabian is planned at Coldfall Primary School, Coldfall Avenue, Muswell Hill.

Football-mad Fabian was a dedicated Manchester United fan and "loved" attending a fundraising match set up by Coldfall parents last year to kick start the campaign to pay for his treatment.

A flurry of events followed, including a black tie fundraiser attended by a host of A-list stars such as Bob Hoskins.
