A pub chain manager will be pounding the streets of London to raise funds for a cause close to her heart.

Shashana Rushbrooke, of Bradwell and who is area manager for JD Wetherspoons, will be running the London Marathon on Sunday, April 22 in aid of the children’s charity Clic Sargent, which is the chosen charity of the pub chain.

Mrs Rushbrooke has seen the charity’s work at first hand after a young member of her own family’s battle with cancer.

She said: “The reality of where the money goes and the support it gives children with cancer and their families really hit home in 2016 when my beautiful niece and god-daughter was diagnosed with a Wilms tumour.

“Throughout her diagnosis, treatment and now nine months since the end of her treatment she remains symptom free.

“Mia has been a shining star and an example that children with cancer, can lead a normal life and can carry on making special memories and meeting some wonderful people along the way.”

She will be running the London Marathon along with general manager Tom Ball and head of property management Billy Kelly and hopes to raise £2,000.

In her role she covers nine pubs and three hotels in Norfolk and Suffolk, including the Troll Cart and William Adams pubs.

Wetherspoon and its staff have raised over £15m for the charity over the years through football and darts competitions, donation tins, quizzes, marathons and much more.

Every day, 11 children and young people will hear the devastating news that they have cancer.

CLIC Sargent’s specialist care teams will step in from diagnosis to help, guide and support the patients and their families as they fight this awful disease.

CLIC Sargent provides a tailored package of support to each young cancer patient and their loved ones.

And if the worst happens, they will work with bereaved families to offer them support to cope with their emotional pain.

There are donation buckets in the local Whetherspoon pubs and a fundraising page on the internet for donations to the cause.
