Bomb disposal experts have been called to Heacham following reports of ordnance on the beach.
Norfolk Police said it was called to the scene by the coastguard at 4.30pm on Saturday after a 'metal cylinder' was found.
Photographs from the scene show a rusted object between some rocks, cordoned off by police tape.
An RAF bomb disposal team was sent to the beach to deal with the device.
