A festival celebrating the art of tattooing is returning to the city for the fifth year this weekend.
Norwich Body Art Festival (NBAF) is taking place on Saturday and Sunday and is this year being held at Open in Bank Plain, Norwich.
The event, co-founded by Outline Magazine and Indigo Tattoo Studio and previously held at St Andrew’s Hall, aims to show people that the best artists may hold a tattoo machine instead of a paintbrush and the best canvases may be people’s skin.
Emma Garwood, one of the event organisers, said: “This year’s festival is bigger than before.
“We have got a record number of tattooists – 86 over the weekend.
“The festival will feature some of the best artistic talent you have ever seen, some big names in the tattoo world.
“We have also moved to a new venue where we can now have amplified entertainment, and we have got a really good programme, including some really good local bands, burlesque performer Beatrix Von Bourbon, who dazzled audiences in Britain’s Got Talent, and The Fuel Girls.”
As well as performing her burlesque routine, Beatrix Von Bourbon will also be modelling for NBAF’s informal life drawing class-with-a-twist, Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School.
The Fuel Girls describe themselves as “a fire breathing rock and roll, dance and stunt show,” and two of the girls will be performing their routines and signing autographs.
The NBAF after-party on Saturday night will also be at Open from 8.45pm. Entertainment will include Birmingham-based headliners Johnny Kowalski and the Sexy Weirdos plus local acts Das Fenster and the Alibis, Rammerator and Riski Brawd.
Norwich Body Art Festival is from 12pm until 8pm on Saturday and Sunday at Open Youth Venue, in Bank Plain, Norwich. Tickets for adults cost £10 per day or £17.50 for both days. Tickets for under 16s cost £5 per day or £7.50 for both days. Entry to the NBAF After Party, which is for over 18s only, costs £5 (£3 for NBAF wristband holders). Tickets are available on the door and can also be bought in advance at several Norwich venues including Indigo Tattoo Studio, Rock Collection, Rude Boy Tattoo Studio, Open and Beatniks.
