A Norwich woman who had been missing for more than two weeks is believed to be the person found on a popular walking and cycling route in the city, it has emerged.
Concerns had been growing for Kayla Terry who has not been seen since Monday, January 15.
The 31-year-old, from the Lathes, off St Augustine’s Street, was last seen on the same day in Magdalen Street.
Police had issued appeals for information about her whereabouts and said they were becoming “increasingly concerned” about her welfare.
And following the discovery of a woman’s body last week, it appears those fears have been realised.
An investigation was launched after a body was found on Marriott’s Way, near to Bridge Street and Barker Street, shortly before 4.30pm on Wednesday, January 31.
A spokesman for Norfolk police said: “Formal identification has not yet been carried out but it is believed to be that of missing person Kayla Terry.”
The death has been treated as unexplained although police said it is not believed to be suspicious.
This follows a post mortem examination carried out by the Home Office on Friday, which concluded that further tests are still due to be carried out. The police seal which had been put in place after the body was found has been removed and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.
One man, who did not wish to be named, said the woodland, known as Train Wood, is regularly used by people “unofficially camping” in the area.
The remains of several tents were next to the cordon. A 31-year-old woman, from The Lathes, who did not want to be named, said: “Its a shock.
“It’s sad isn’t it, she was only my age.”
The woman said she had gone missing previously but had turned up after a couple of days.
Another woman in the area said it was “sad”.
Stuart McLaren, secretary of the St Augustine’s Residents Association, said he recognised Kayla’s picture, although did not know her personally.
He said: “I don’t know her but it’s someone I’ve seen around.
“It’s very sad. It’s sad when people go when they are so young.”
