Smoother public transport links will keep passengers moving in Great Yarmouth following the launch of an improved summer bus service.
Campaigners from the East Norfolk Transport Users Association (ENTUA) joined representatives from bus firm First and train operator Abellio Greater Anglia at Great Yarmouth railway station yesterday to mark the timely arrival, and on schedule departure, of a new number three service.
The summer seafront service summer is not new but this is the first time it is stopping at the Vauxhall Station, meaning passengers can now step off a train and straight onto a bus. It is the first time buses have served the station in a number of years.
The number three will run hourly from May 25 to September 20, going up to every 30 minutes from July 27 to August 30.
Steve Hewitt, chairman of ENTUA, which led the campaign to improve the service, said: “Our next aim, and we are talking to First about this, is to have the service running all year round. It will make a big difference to a lot of people who use public transport around here.”
Mr Hewitt heaped praise on Danny Beales, operations manager at the First depot in Yarmouth, for listening to ENTUA’s ideas.
James Reeve, head of customer service north for train operator Abellio Greater Anglia, added: “Many visitors to the town arrive by train and being able to offer a seamless travel experience for onward journeys from the station is very important for our customers and helps to showcase Great Yarmouth as a great holiday destination.”
The number three will stop at Great Yarmouth Railway Station, Vauxhall Holiday Park, Market Gates, Britannia Pier, Seashore Holiday Centre, Caister Post Office, Scratby, Beach Drive, Newport Caravan Park, and Hemsby Beach, also calling at the Waterways in north Yarmouth, Yarmouth Racecourse, Yarmouth Stadium, California Holiday Village and Hemsby’s Kingsway shops.
