Hemsby's lifeboat crew enjoyed their most successful open day yet after raising £5,000 with a host of family fun.
And visitors who flocked to the lifeboat station this afternoon got to see the lifesaving volunteers in action, after they were called out to a rescue in the middle of the fun.
The Broads lifeboat was launched just before 1.30pm after a 71-year-old man suffered a stoke on board a cruiser vessel on the waterways.
The crew left their stands at the fun day, jumped into their gear and headed out to South Walsham where they met with Winterton Coastguard and the ambulance service.
The crew got the patient safely off the cruiser, transferred him to the lifeboat and then handed him into the care of paramedics.
Arriving back at the station they took up their posts again at the fundraising day, which featured tombolas, raffles, a model display, barbecue, bar and karaoke.
Another popular attraction was the chance for visitors to gunge the crew.
Among those who got covered in goop was coxswain Dan Hurd, who said despite the weather, it had been the best lifeboat day the independent service had ever had.
'It's been fantastic, we couldn't have asked for a better day with all the public coming down and supporting us,' he added. 'I'm over the moon.
'When I was down here at 6 o'clock in the morning it was debatable whether to go ahead but if we were paged we'd be going out so we thought we'd do the same for lifeboat day.'
