Two Beccles mums are turning the skills they have gained through cooking with their children into a new business venture to support other parents.

Lucy Ellis and Emily Cole have set up Wise Choice Cookery School to provide fun and interactive cooking experiences for youngsters and their families.

It is designed to help parents enjoy quality time with their children by following a range of nutritious recipes to produce a healthy treat to share.

Each session will take place at the Salvation Army Hall, in Blyburgate, and will include an opportunity for toddlers, aged between two and four, to choose and sample different tastes and textures through a woodland kitchen and the help of Arty the owl puppet.

There will also be a lively movement section with action songs, and children can take away the food they prepare as well as a recipe card to reinvent the dish at home.

Emily said: “I’ve always wanted to run my own business and do something from scratch, we both very much enjoy cooking with our own children so we decided to combine the two.” Lucy added: “Our courses promote healthy eating and trying new foods. We have certainly noticed with our own that they try new things when they are cooking it themselves.”

The duo have spent the past few months training and have so far held three successful trial sessions.

The first paid-for taster session at £6.75, takes place on Thursday, February 9, with spaces still available, followed by the first block of six-week courses beginning on February 23, priced £40.50.

Emily said: “Our sessions are multi-sensory and nurturing and we want to build on this with experts in special needs to take the sessions into local primary schools to deliver a social communication intervention programme to allow children to develop their reflective thinking, mindfulness and build resilience.”
