A much-loved charity at the heart of the Beccles community is celebrating the arrival of a new member.

Beccles and Districts Lions Club welcomed Graham Gooda to the charity during a membership induction ceremony last week.

Club president Chris Ramsden believes the newcomer will be a valuable asset to the organisation.

He said: “Over the years Graham has been very supportive of Beccles Lions Club and we feel very proud that he has decided to join the club.”

Worldwide the Lions ‘family’ has more than one million members and Mr Gooda has spoken of his excitement to join such a prestigious organisation.

Mr Gooda said: “I am really delighted to be a part of such a great international organisation which the Lions are.

“I am fully aware of the excellent work they do for the local community and worldwide.

“I find it amazing that every penny donated to the Lions is given back to the local community whether it is helping towards the cost of the giving those with disabilities a holiday or to a family that needs extra help due to unforeseen circumstances.”

He added: “Whatever and wherever disaster strikes – the Lions are there to help where they can.”

Membership chairman Keith Moore said Mr Gooda is an “ideal candidate” to become a Lions member.

He said: “I am positive Graham will do his best to help where he can within the club and the community and become a credit to Beccles Lions.”

The club will soon be hosting an open evening at Beccles Station on Wednesday, February 28, at 7.30pm, to showcase the work it does in the local community.

Mr Moore said: “We are very appreciative of the support the people of Beccles gives to the club, therefore we are holding an open evening so we can show them just how much the local ‘pride of lions’ has achieved through their support and help.

“Equally if there is anyone within the community who feels like they too can offer some further help in serving the community then please come along.”
