For the next few nights there will be a barrel-load of laughs as well as beer on offer at a Norwich pub which is holding its ninth annual comedy festival.

The Unthank Comedy Festival starts today at the Unthank Arms with the final night on Thursday – with owner Nick De’Ath promising people a “great night out”.

The festival has become a popular part of the summer offering in the Golden Triangle area and Mr De’Ath, who is this year celebrating 25 years at the pub, expects this year to be no different.

He said: “It’s nine years now and its something that we thought would be great for the Golden Triangle. We get a couple of hundred people a night through the doors for three nights. It’s something different, a great atmosphere and the forecast for this year is fantastic.”

The comedy festival takes place in a marquee in the garden of the Newmarket Road pub where there is also a bar and barbecue.

People attending this year’s festival will be able to see a varied selection of comics from the UK stand up scene including ex-solicitor turned comedian Andrew Watts, Matt Green, and Tom Craine, an increasingly popular writer and performer on the TV comedy scene, with appearances on shows such as Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC3), Live At The Electric (BBC3) and investigative reports on Inside Out (BBC1).
