Overnight queues formed outside the Dr Martens shop in Norwich last night as bargain hunters waited for a pair of cut price boots.

Top offers in the store on Castle Street included a pair of signature shoes for £3 – when they normally sell for £100.

Some eager shoppers had been waiting outside since 8pm last night in readiness for the 9am opening, with many even pitching a tent in readiness.

Guy Beaven, 19, from Norwich was in-line since 3am. He said: “I think I’m lucky to get a pair as I was able to join some mates who started queuing before me. But they’re definitely worth it.”

And Damon Cocker, 23, a barman at the Belgium Monk in Norwich, said he had been queuing since about 1.30am.

  • What's truly "pathetic" is some of the comments on here; sounds like sour grapes to me tbh

  • Clearly, those who grieve the passing of Monty Python need grieve no longer.

  • I don't know whats more pathetic, queueing all night for some shoes, or the fact it has made the news. Clearly some of these people have too much time on their hands and should report to jobcentre plus to find employment or do voluntary work. Perhaps they could start with a litter pick in the city centre.

  • I don't think the traditional Doc Martens wearers would have queued all night for a new pair in the 1970's? Sad to see such brands trying to turn themselves into high end fashion accessories. Whatever next, a posh Levis shop with overpriced stock and no customers? Hang on a minute...

  • so 70 pairs at £3, so £210 probably the best ever days trading and target reached for that Shop since it opened. Every time I walk past there are about 3-4 people in there, and 2 of those are staff members. Don't tell George Osborne that they sold 70 pairs of Boots, cause he will claim the economy is improving.

  • I got there at 7.15am by which time the queue was already up and around Arcade Street onto Castle Meadow, As I was there anyway I thought I'd hang on, even though I ended up doing a headcount of those in front which was roughly 150. It wasn't until after 8.30 that a staff member came out to take order details and distribute lanyards to those at the front of the queue at which point we discovered that there were only 70 £3 pairs available. Vouchers for 25% discount for today only then were handed out to the rest of us in the queue which dispersed in relatively good humour despite the disappointment.

  • Who pays to clear up the absolutely disgusting mess of litter and discarded food which was shrewn along Castle Street, from the entrance to The Royal Arcade to the door of the shop, at 09:30 this morning?

  • That's incredibly unfair that this person was allowed to jump the queue and probably take someone elses bargain.
