It seems visitors to one north Suffolk attraction have been taking out their frustrations on banks following revelations of the lending rate scandal which led to the resignation of Barclays chief executive Bob Diamond.

Southwold Pier’s “Whack a Banker” game has seen a recent surge in popularity over the last week or so with people enjoying the chance to vent their anger over the Libor fixing row by bashing pop up versions of bankers.

The game is proving so popular that the pier may even have to order new hammers so visitors can keep bashing bankers.

And in another sign of people’s anger over the banking controversy a video has been posted on the website YouTube which shows the face of Mr Diamond superimposed on to one of the games’ heads.

Stephen Bournes, owner of Southwold Pier, said: “The game was very popular when we had it installed three years ago – to the point where we had to get the plastic hammers replaced every two weeks.

“Recently – with everything that has been happening surrounding Bob Diamond – the game has become popular again.

“I think we will have to be ordering some new hammers.“
