A badly injured deer partially blocked a village road until a deer warden was called to put it out of its misery.

Police said a concerned motorist called them about the animal obstructing the B1146 at Horningtoft, between Dereham and Fakenham, at 6.50am today.

It was not clear how the deer was hurt, but it was described as “quite badly injured”.

Police said the motorist had tried to move the animal but had difficulty, and although police officers did not go to the scene themselves they dispatched a deer warden to put it down.

The obstruction did not cause significant delays to traffic.
