The birth of a child is a pivotal moment for any family, but for one it was even more special as baby, mother and a grandparent now share the same birthday.
Alicia Cox, 28, from Brandon, described it as the “best birthday present ever” when her first child Blake was born on September 26, which also happens to be the birthday of her partner Alan’s mother, Tracy Sutton, 53.
Ms Sutton, for whom Blake is her first grandchild, said it was “just wonderful” how it had turned out, adding she also had the “best birthday present in the world”.
Miss Cox said: “We kind of talked about it and said ‘wouldn’t it be amazing if he came on our birthday,’ but we didn’t really think it was that possible.
“And even up to when I was in the hospital I checked the clock and it went to 11 at night and I thought ‘he’s not coming on my birthday’, but he did just make it.”
Ms Sutton, from the Moreton Hall estate in Bury St Edmunds, said: “It was just so lovely when Alan called me at 6 o’clock in the morning and said he was out. It was just amazing, I couldn’t believe it.”
Blake was born at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds at 11.20pm, weighing 6lb 15oz, following a labour which lasted just over 22 hours.
Miss Cox said her partner, who is an electrician, had not managed to get her a birthday card due to the arrival of their son, but joked: “At least he will only have to remember one day now.”
On how they will celebrate their joint birthdays in the future, she said: “I think our birthdays probably aren’t going to be that important any more. It’s going to be about Blake now to be honest.”
Ms Sutton, a mother-of-four, said: “His first birthday is going to be amazing. There’s no way we will want to be apart. We will all want to be together. It will just be such a special day.”
