It is the ultimate dilemma that new mums face – how to get fit while looking after their baby.

But now personal trainer, Duane Smith, has created buggy bootcamp classes especially for new parents.

Mums can park their buggies around the edge of the mat while exercising, meaning they can keep an eye on their little ones while getting fit.

Mr Smith, who lives in Tortoisehell Way, Wymondham, said he saw a gap in the market when he was working as a personal trainer in a gym.

'A lot of women who came to the gym were looking to get fit after pregnancy.

'I was teaching one of my girlfriend's friends about how she could tone up her core muscles and I thought there must be a lot of women who were looking to get fit but couldn't find someone to look after the baby,' he said.

He started holding his classes at Wymondham Skate Park but as the days became colder and darker he moved to Wymondham Martial Arts and Wellbeing Centre.

And now he is holding weekly classes in Dereham and Costessey to cope with the demand.

The 32-year-old said: 'The exercise itself consists of circuit-based activities including boxercise, kettlebells, bodyweight exercises and much more, specifically designed to help lose baby-weight and tone up core muscles.'

Mum-of-four Helen Batch, who lives in Woodrising, has been going to the Wymondham classes since September.

Mrs Batch, who brings her one-year-old daughter, Lola, to the classes, said: 'It's difficult to fitness when you have young children because they are always doing their own activities.

'During the daytime I have to look after Lola and she is too young for childcare, so I couldn't fit exercise in if it wasn't for the baby buggy class.'

Mrs Batch who also has three sons, Billy, 10, Jeorgy, seven, and Dylan, five, added: 'Duane works us really hard, you definitely feel like you have had a workout – I think it has definitely made a difference to me.'

There is a half-hour coffee and play time at the end of each session so that mums and children can make new friends and socialise.

Classes are held at Wymondham martial arts and wellbeing centre on Mondays and Thursdays from 9.30am to 11am, in Breckland Hall in Costessey on Tuesdays from 10am to 11.30am and in the Salvation Army Hall in Dereham on Fridays from noon to 1.30pm.
