Cake lovers turned out in droves as Purdy’s Tea Room in Aylsham opened their doors for a Macmillan Coffee morning.

The tea room, based at Woodgate Nursery, also hosted a charity raffle to top up funds for the cancer support charity.

Every hot drink sold on September 29 went to the charity, with the cakes all fitting in with the Macmillan theme - including delicious raspberry and almond battenburg.

Lisa Smith, tea room manager, said: “This year has been really well supported and with all proceeds from the hot drinks being donated, we have raised over £720 for Macmillan, a fantastic amount.

“Thank you to everyone who took part and helped us raise so much for a great cause.”

A raffle of a hamper worth £50 of tea and nursery goodies helped to bring their total to more than £700.

The coffee morning was sponsored by Calypso coffees.

The nursery in which the tea room is based has been running since 1982, when it was begun by founder Peter Purdy as a hobby.
