Awards for people who enrich community life at Sheringham

Archant Norfolk 2013

A team, and individuals, who help organise community events and clubs have been saluted by Sheringham Town Council.

Community awards, aimed at recognising people whose unsung work enriches the quality of life for residents, were presented at the annual town meeting by mayor Doug Smith.

Winners were:

Francis Farrow - for his work as voluntary warden at the Commons, one of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. He also recently formed a Loke clearing group.

Mike Clayton - for his tireless efforts for Sheringham in Bloom which keeps Sheringham attractive for both Residents and Visitors.

Crispin and Kim Glover - for their unstinting work behind the scenes at an array of events, including the carnival, Christmas Lights, 1940’s weekends and classic car events.

Maurice and Jill Clements - inspirational members of the Evergreens Lunch Club, set up in Sheringham 26 years ago for the elderly and lonely. They are also active at Sheringham Church.

Graham Simms - an all-round volunteer and helper with many Sheringham events including the Christmas Tree Festival, St Andrews Church annual flower festival, Sheringham in Bloom, Sheringham Helping Hands and has raised money for charity, the latest being the food bank.

Sheringham Carnival Committee - for its hard work throughout the year to provide entertainment for visitors, which in turn helps our businesses to thrive, helping both financially and with community spirit.
