A butcher has scooped an array of top awards, including being crowned as the best black pudding maker in the East.
The triumph for Tony Perkins, of Tony Perkins Butchers in Attleborough, came after he entered the BPEX Regional Roadshow and Pork Product Excellence Awards 2012/13. The event, which took place at the Norfolk Showground in Norwich, drew in over 125 products from butchers in the region, across ten categories.
Tony Perkins not only walked away with a gold award for his black pudding, it was judged to be the best in its category. In addition, the butcher, who owns three shops, was awarded a further gold for his scotch egg, silver for Applewood smoked bacon and bronze for traditional pork sausage.
Mr Perkins said: “I had a sneaking suspicion my black pudding would do well at the roadshow as it’s very popular with my customers – my biggest critics!
“Black pudding is definitely growing in popularity as a product. We now sell four times as much as we did when we first started making it just over a year ago. The judges actually commented on its flavour and that we had a good recipe, which is almost certainly down to the quality ingredients I use and our craftsmanship.”
Naturists are to be banned from a nationally-renowned Norfolk beach following complaints about anti-social behaviour committed in the area.
