Police are investigating a suspected arson after a bin store was set alight in a basement car park of a Norwich city centre flat block last night.

The fire was in the car park of the flats in Maidstone Road, off Rose Lane, but no one was hurt.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene at 10.40pm, with fire engines from Sprowston and Carrow attending and using hose reel jets to extinguish the fire by 11.06pm.

Police were called to Maidstone Road at 10.50pm. A police spokesman said: “It is being treated as suspected arson. An unplugged fridge left in the location also caught light. No-one was hurt in the incident and enquiries continue.”
