Arminghall murder trial opens at Norwich Crown Court

A mother-of-three died after her husband attacked her with a hammer in the dinning room of their home, a court heard this morning.

Thomas Crompton of Arminghall Lane allegedly attacked his newly-wed wife, Angela, with the hammer in their home in the village of Arminghall, south of Norwich, on June 11 this year.

The metal sculpturer admits killing the 34-year-old, but denies murder.

A jury at Norwich Crown Court will decide whether the 39-year-old is guilty of murder or manslaughter during a trial which is expected to last two weeks.

Opening the case this morning, Peter Gair, prosecuting, said: “The defendant attempted to strangle his wife. He repeatedly struck her in the face.”

Mrs Crompton, nee Phillips, died two days after the attack on June 13.
