Officers were called to a property in Copperfield Avenue at about 12.25am today after receiving reports of a burglary.

A man in his 20s was seen inside the property with what appeared to be a firearm. No one else appeared to be inside at the time.

Police said officers from the force’s armed response units as well as negotiators attended to “resolve the situation peacefully”.

At 5.10am officers entered the property and the man was subsequently arrested and an air rifle was recovered.

In a statement, police said: “Officers would like to thank local residents for their cooperation while this incident was ongoing but can reassure them that there is no ongoing threat to any members of the public.”
