The network of facilities to feed people in crisis grew again yesterday as an Aylsham base was launched.

Volunteers from Cromer and District Foodbank were at Aylsham Parish Church to collect donations and hand out parcels on the first day of the Broadland town’s foodbank.

It means that in just over six months, Cromer and District Foodbank has gone from nothing to having bases at Aylsham, Cromer Methodist church hall, St Joseph’s Church hall at Sheringham and the hall at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, North Walsham.

Foodbank chairman Tina Nicholas and her husband Malcolm were at Aylsham Church during the popular weekly Monday morning sale.

The main collection centre will remain at Cromer, but volunteers will gauge need each week and make up parcels to take to Aylsham each Monday. There is also a storage facility there.

Last year, Cromer and District Foodbank joined forces with the North Norfolk News for its Banking on You appeal, urging people to donate food and other items to help those going through a financial or housing crisis. The News office was inundated with donations, which were used to put together three-day parcels.
